A Pakistani national, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, who had been residing in Canada, has been extradited to the United States on terrorism-related charges, including plotting a deadly attack on the Jewish community in support of ISIS, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel confirmed on Tuesday.
According to Patel, Khan allegedly planned to launch the attack on October 7, 2024 — the first anniversary of Hamas’ attack on Israel — intending to use automatic weapons to kill as many Jewish civilians as possible. “This case highlights the growing threat of terrorism worldwide and the disturbing rise in antisemitic violence,” Patel wrote on X.
The FBI, working in close coordination with Canadian authorities, foiled the plot before it could be carried out. Khan was arrested in Canada on September 4, 2024, after allegedly revealing his plans to individuals who were, in fact, undercover law enforcement officers.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated, “Khan was preparing for mass violence in the name of ISIS. His aim was to inflict maximum harm on our Jewish community. Thanks to the vigilance of law enforcement, his plans were stopped before they could be executed.”
Khan was formally extradited to the U.S. this week and will now face federal charges, including attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and attempting to commit acts of terrorism.
The U.S. Justice Department emphasized that the successful disruption of Khan’s plans underscores the importance of proactive intelligence efforts and international cooperation in combating extremism.
“The FBI will remain vigilant and continue working around the clock to counter terrorism in all forms,” Patel said.
