Odisha Achieves Significant Improvement In Anaemia Reduction- NFHS-5 Data

In the State, there has been a noticeable improvement in the decrease of anemia in children, teenage girls, and women. The state’s adoption of the AMLAN- “Anaemia Mukta Lakhya Abhiyan” initiative has made it feasible.

The level of anemia among children aged 6 to 59 months in the State was 64.2%, but following the introduction of AMLAN, it dropped to 42.3%, according to data from the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5). Anaemia rates among teenage girls aged 10 to 19 have also fallen, from 65.5% to 46.9%. Anaemia is now more common in women of reproductive age, down from 64.3% to 55.7%.

According to Shalini Pandit, secretary of health and family welfare, national and state programs have been successful in reducing anemia. It is important to note that Odisha performs better than states like Gujarat, Bihar, and Assam in terms of anaemia. Odisha has also achieved outstanding progress in meeting the nutritional needs of children under the age of five, according to data from the national survey.
