Odisha clears JSW’s Rs 40,000 cr proposal to set up EV manufacturing units

According to a senior official, the Odisha government approved 14 proposals on Monday, including the JSW Group’s proposal to invest Rs 40,000 crore to establish electric vehicle and component manufacturing units in the districts of Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presided over the Cabinet meeting where the proposals were approved.

“The Cabinet approved a special incentive package for the JSW Group’s ambitious EV and component manufacturing projects at Naraj in Cuttack, and Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district”, chief secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena stated. These projects, with a combined investment of over Rs 40,000 crore and employment potential of over 11,000, are set to usher in a new era of industrial growth and job creation in the state, he said.

The JSW Group has suggested that Naraj, Cuttack, become the site of an EV and EV battery manufacturing project. He added that JSW intends to invest Rs 25,000 crore in the state and that this facility will create jobs for over 4,000 people. The company also plans to establish an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) plant for EVs and components in the same facility in two phases.

In a similar vein, the company’s third phase of expansion into the new age sector involved the establishment of an electric vehicle component manufacturing complex at Paradip that included a copper and a lithium smelter. JSW intends to invest Rs 15,000 crore in the state during this phase, creating jobs for over 7,000 people, informed Jena.
