A proposal to rename the Government Medical College & Hospital, Jajpur, which is scheduled to open in 2024, after Jajati Keshari was accepted by the chief minister on Wednesday, according to a CMO announcement. Famous Somavamsi king of ancient Odisha, Jajati Keshari. He had built a number of significant temples, including Bhubaneswar’s exquisite Lingaraj Temple. The present Jajpur, known as “Abhinav Jajnagar,” became the seat of his dominion. According to the press release, “naming Jajpur Medical College after Jajati Kesari is a humble tribute to this great historical figure who had enhanced the glory of Odisha.”
Over 46 acres, the medical college was constructed for a cost of Rs. 526.21 crore. According to the statement, the state government is now seeking to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for a Letter of Permission (LoP) to admit 100 MBBS students to the medical college for the academic year 2024–2025.
The Health Department said on September 11 that “after careful thought, government has been happy to name the new Government Medical College and Hospital in Jajpur as “Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, Jajpur.”
Notably, on his most recent visit to the region, 5T Secretary V K Pandian received a proposal from the residents of Jajpur to rename the medical college in honor of the king. With the launch of this facility, Odisha will now have 12 government medical colleges and hospitals, graduating 1,650 MBBS students annually.
