For the 2025–2026 academic year, the Center has authorized 62 additional postgraduate (PG) seats at six state-run medical schools and hospitals in Odisha.
In a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed his sincere thanks to you and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the kind clearance of 62 postgraduate seats in six government medical schools and hospitals in Odisha for the 2025–2026 academic year.
The CM termed it as a significant milestone in strengthening the medical education and healthcare infrastructure in western Odisha. “The additional PG seats will not only enhance the quality of medical teaching and learning but also improve specialised healthcare delivery for the people of the region,” he said.
“The state government is committed to ensuring full compliance with the norms and standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission and extending all necessary support to develop these institutes into premier centres of medical excellence,” he added.
Union Education Dharmendra Pradhan, who is also an MP from Sambalpur, thanked Nadda, CM Majhi, and State Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling for the increase in the number of PG seats. He said that 15 more seats, three at SCB Medical College in Cuttack, PGIMER & Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, twenty at PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, eight at FM Medical College and Hospital in Balasore, and ten at Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir, had been approved.
“Odisha’s health and education infrastructure will be further strengthened through this visionary step,” he continued.
