Odisha Govt Assures Safe Return Of Stranded Citizens From War-Torn West Asia

As massive airspace restrictions and continuous military attacks continue to seriously impede air traffic, the growing violence in West Asia has raised serious worries for the safe return of Odisha residents who are stuck in the region. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan responded to questions from reporters on Sunday by stating that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has discussed the evacuation of Odias caught in the unrest with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He emphasized coordinated efforts at the local and federal levels and promised that “people from our state will return home safely very soon.”

The Minister said that PM Modi and the MEA were implementing comprehensive measures to repatriate all Indian citizens from the conflict zone. “Not a single Indian will be left behind,” Harichandan stressed.

This comes in the wake of a major attack by the United States and Israel on Iran on Saturday, which resulted in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Air travel across West Asia and several other countries, including India, has been severely disrupted due to airspace restrictions following the joint attack and Iran’s retaliatory strikes across the Gulf cities of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Manama for a second consecutive day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received a letter from the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association requesting the evacuation of some 1,200 Kashmiri students who are stranded in Iran. Citing the rapidly changing and worsening security situation, the Indian Embassy in Tehran reiterated its January advisory on February 23, urging all Indian nationals in Iran, including students, pilgrims, business travelers, and tourists, to leave the country right away using any commercial flights or other means of transportation.
