Odisha Govt To Intensify Crackdown On Illegal Liquor Trade, Announces Legal Reforms

The Odisha government has taken strong legal action against anyone participating in the illicit booze trade and has stepped up attempts to stop it. With planned regulatory changes aimed at totally eliminating illicit liquor operations, this movement will only pick up speed in the future. The next excise policy will contain these modifications, guaranteeing enhanced regulatory measures and more stringent enforcement. At a review meeting today in the second-floor conference hall of the Lok Seva Bhavan, Prithviraj Harichandan, Minister of Law, Public Works, and Excise, asked excise officials and personnel to increase their efficiency and help maintain the state’s image.

Minister Harichandan met with district Excise Superintendents to discuss a number of elements of the Excise Department’s operations, according to an official news release. The manufacturing and sale of country liquor, the number of reported cases, district-level enforcement operations, revenue collection, mahua flower sales, and the condition of confiscated cars were among the main topics of discussion. The Minister also underlined the necessity of regularly training officers and personnel and filling open posts in the department. The development of staff housing and the state of excise depot operations in different areas were also discussed.

Several district Excise Superintendents and departmental personnel attended the meeting, along with Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Department, Excise Commissioner Narasingh Bhol, OSBC Managing Director Amber Kar, and OSBC General Manager Sanjay Kumar Rout.
