The Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme’s State-Level Steering Committee examined the status of 322 schools’ construction and spoke about ways to guaranty the program’s prompt implementation throughout Odisha. Chief Secretary Anu Garg presided over the committee’s inaugural meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, where topics like school selection, infrastructure, monitoring, land availability, and staff deployment for the scheme’s successful execution were also discussed.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Deoranjan Kumar Singh, and other committee members. The State-Level Steering Committee’s role and responsibilities, the scheme’s execution, and the operation of the State-Level Special Cell established for oversight and monitoring were all covered in the meeting.
To guaranty the scheme’s successful execution, the committee emphasized the necessity of interdepartmental collaboration, frequent progress reviews, and prompt policy interventions. 118 of the 322 schools covered by the program were part of the first phase, while 204 were part of the second. Garg instructed authorities to hasten the work while upholding quality standards after reviewing the building status of the schools being carried out by various implementing agencies.
The committee also discussed proposed changes to the guidelines relating to school selection and infrastructure. Officials said the square-shaped building design approved earlier may not be feasible at some locations because of the size, width and shape of the available land. A proposal was therefore discussed to allow a rectangular building design in such cases, depending on site conditions.
