Odisha To Get 20 New Cyber Crime Police Stations

Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said on Monday that the Odisha government has authorized the opening of 20 new cybercrime and economic offense police stations around the state in a bold attempt to combat the growing threat of cybercrimes. At the opening of a state-level workshop on “Cyber Crime Investigation and Cyber Intelligence” at the Cyber Complex in Bhubaneswar, the DGP provided the information.

From financial frauds and cyber exploitation to identity theft and online fraud, these specialist police stations are anticipated to be essential in identifying, stopping, and responding to digital crimes. The new groups will greatly increase the state’s ability to counter cyber attacks, according to DGP Khurania. The DGP also said that the establishment of the Odisha Cyber Command Center in Bhubaneswar has received approval from the state government. The future facility will be a focal point for obtaining cyber intelligence, identifying criminals, and providing prompt victim support.

“It will be a cornerstone in our fight against invisible criminals, and a crucial step in modernizing the state’s cyber infrastructure,” he added.

Under the auspices of the State Crime Branch, the workshop served as the kickoff for a statewide effort to improve the capacity to investigate cybercrimes. Following that, officers from all ranks—from constables to senior officials—will participate in workshops at the range and district levels with the goal of standardizing training and enhancing investigative skills throughout the force.
