Pakistan continues to stay in FATF ‘grey list’ for terror funding

Pakistan in trouble again. The FATF, which monitors terrorist funds, has not changed Pakistan’s image this time too. So Pakistan remained strong on the ‘grey’ list again. The FATF said Pakistan had failed to meet four of the 27 mandatory categories of terrorist financial monitoring in the money lobbying case.

According to the FATF, the issue will be considered in Pakistan next June. In addition, Pakistan has not yet performed well in three categories. “For now, Pakistan will be on the grey list,” the FATF said.

Next June, the FATF will look at what steps Pakistan has taken on all these issues. After monitoring, the members will decide whether Pakistan will continue staying on the ‘grey list’ or not.

Notably, in June 2017, FATF placed Pakistan on the ‘gray’ list. The FATF then called on Pakistan to suspend money laundering and terrorist funding by the end of 2018. The deadline was extended for Covid 19 pandemic.

In October 2020, the FATF held a meeting on the issue. It was later decided to keep Pakistan on the “grey” list until February 2021.
