PM Modi to launch power projects worth Rs 28,978 crore in Odisha on February 3

On February 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to spend a day in Odisha, where he will dedicate two NTPC power plants and lay the groundwork for a third that will require an investment of Rs 28,978 crore.

During his visit, Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for NTPC’s Talcher Thermal Power Project (2×660 MW), dedicate the Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), and the NSPCL Rourkela PP Expansion Project (1×250 MW). The prime minister will mark the completion of the future power projects, according to NTPC’s regional executive director for Eastern Region I & II, Sudip Nag, who was speaking at a press conference.

The Darlipali STPP, a pit-head power station using supercritical (very efficient) technology, is situated in the Sundergarh district and will provide affordable power to its beneficiary states, including Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim. In order to support the steel plant, which is essential for economic growth, the NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd. established the 250 MW project at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). He also mentioned that the NTPC is developing the Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III, within the former TTPS plant premises in the Angul district. The NTPC acquired the TTPS plant from the Odisha State Electricity Board in 1995.
