PM Modi to launch a new payment solution; e-RUPI

On August 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a person and purpose-specific digital payment solution e-RUPI through video conferencing.

The government aims to take forward the concept of the electronic voucher with a vision of great governance. Apart from being a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment, e-RUPI could be a QR code or SMS string-based e-Voucher, which is delivered to the mobile of the recipients.

As per the PMO statement said on July 31 “the users of this consistent one-time payment mechanism will be able to redeem the voucher without a card, digital payments app or internet banking get to, at the service supplier’’.

e-RUPI interfaces the sponsors of the services with the recipients and service providers in a digital way without any physical interface. It moreover guarantees that the payment to the service provider is made only after the transaction is completed, the statement included.

Being pre-paid in nature, e-RUPI guarantees timely payment to the service provider without the involvement of any middle person, the government said.

The government is anticipating the mechanism to guarantee a leak-proof delivery of welfare services. It can moreover be utilized for delivering services beneath schemes implied for giving drugs and wholesome support, or diagnostics beneath plans like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, etc. Moreover, private firms as well cam use these digital vouchers as a portion of their employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programs, the PMO said.

The new digital payment solution has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NCPI) on its UPI platform, in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and National Health Authority.
