“Pune Rape Accused Referred to Survivor as ‘Didi,’ Police Reveals in Court”

The 26-year-old woman was referred to as her “didi” (sister) by Pune bus rape suspect Dattatray Ramdas Gade, who then brought her to an unoccupied “Shiv Shahi” bus parked at the Swargate depot and sexually assaulted her, the police informed the court on Friday. The 37-year-old suspect, who was visible in the CCTV footage of the bus terminal on the day of the event, is facing six criminal charges in the districts of Pune and Ahilyanagar, according to a PTI report. The police claim that they have not yet recovered the data from the mobile phone he was using. According to the police, women are complainants in five of the six charges against Gade that have been filed.

“At night, the drone and dog squad search activity in sugarcane fields was halted. But we learnt that Gade had gone to a residence and requested food. We hurried to the location, but he was able to escape. He received a bottle of water from the family living there,” the official continued. What the defence attorney contended
The PTI report states that Wajid Khan, the accused’s attorney, informed the court that his client was being tried in a media trial and asserted that the complainant entered the bus herself. “A physical relationship was established (between them) with mutual consent,” Khan informed the judge.
