Tarn Taran: In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police on Tuesday arrested a man identified as Gagandeep Singh from Tarn Taran for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during Operation Sindoor.
According to Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, the accused was found to be in contact with Pakistan-based pro-Khalistan leader Gopal Singh Chawla. Investigations revealed that Singh had been passing on classified details — including troop deployments and strategic locations — thereby posing a serious threat to national security.
DGP Yadav stated that Singh had been in touch with Chawla for the past five years, and it was through him that he came in contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives (PIOs). He also reportedly received payments from PIOs via Indian financial channels.
The arrest was made following a joint operation by Tarn Taran Police and Counter-Intelligence Punjab. Authorities recovered a mobile phone from Singh containing sensitive information and the details of over 20 ISI-linked contacts.
“Acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, Tarn Taran Police arrested Gagandeep Singh alias Gagan, who had been sharing classified information regarding Army movements during Operation Sindoor with ISI and Chawla,” DGP Yadav posted on X.
A case under the Official Secrets Act has been registered at Police Station City, Tarn Taran. Further financial and technical investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the espionage network.
The DGP reiterated Punjab Police’s commitment to protecting the sovereignty and integrity of the nation, asserting that stringent action will be taken against anyone involved in anti-national activities.
Operation Sindoor refers to India’s retaliatory missile strikes on May 7 targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including Jaish-e-Mohammad’s Bahawalpur base and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s stronghold in Muridke. The operation followed the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
