Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, alleged on Saturday that the BJP government’s “cronyism” and “regulatory mismanagement” have pushed India’s banking sector into crisis, forcing junior employees to endure “stress and toxic work conditions.”
In a post on X, Gandhi shared a video of his meeting with a delegation of former ICICI Bank employees who, he claimed, have suffered due to this mismanagement. He asserted that the Congress would fight for such working-class professionals and work to end “workplace harassment and exploitation.”
He also accused the Modi government of writing off ₹16 lakh crore in loans for its “billionaire friends,” stating that the burden of this economic mismanagement is borne by junior employees facing harsh work environments.
During his meeting with ex-ICICI Bank employees in Parliament on Friday, Gandhi said their stories revealed a troubling pattern of workplace harassment, forced transfers, retaliation for exposing unethical lending, and wrongful terminations. He cited two tragic cases where such circumstances allegedly led to suicides.
“If you are a working professional who has faced similar injustice, share your story with me at https://rahulgandhi.in/awaazbharatki,” he urged.
The delegation of employees, who met Gandhi at his Parliament office, alleged unfair dismissals, recounting instances of abrupt terminations while on medical leave or for raising concerns about management practices.
