The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert covering several states including parts of Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Goa. According to IMD forecasts, the monsoon is expected to shift southwards, impacting coastal regions of Kerala, Karnataka, and the Konkan Goa area this week. Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated in these states over the coming days.
In response to the IMD’s warnings, the Goa education department has declared a holiday for schools up to Class 12 on Monday, July 15. This decision comes after a red alert was issued for parts of Goa due to anticipated heavy rainfall. Similarly, in Kerala, Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts are under a red alert for Monday, while Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad have been issued an orange alert. As a precautionary measure, schools and colleges in six districts of Kerala will remain closed on July 15 due to the expected severe weather conditions.
The IMD’s warnings highlight the potential for significant weather disturbances in these regions, urging residents and authorities to take necessary precautions. The monsoon’s progress is closely monitored as it moves across the southern and western coasts of India, impacting daily life and necessitating safety measures such as school closures to ensure public safety amid the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
