Russia’s Luna 25 crashes on Moon – declared Mission Failed

According to Russia’s space agency Roskosmos, the Luna-25 Russian lunar spacecraft crashed to the moon’s surface after spinning into an unstable orbit. After a pause of 47 years, this mission marked Russia’s comeback to lunar exploration. The event happened a day after Roskosmos reported a problem with manoeuvring Luna-25 into its intended pre-landing orbit. On August 19 and 20, attempts were made to get in touch with the spacecraft and find out where it was, but they were unsuccessful.

As a result, the spacecraft took on an unpredictable orbit and eventually crashed into the moon, according to a statement by Roskosmos. The mission control crew was attempting to put the spacecraft into a pre-landing orbit at 11:10 GMT on Saturday in anticipation of a scheduled landing on August 21 when a “unusual circumstance” occurred, according to the space agency.
