Satara Doctor Dies After Prolonged Dispute with Phaltan Police

A 29-year-old government doctor in Satara committed suicide after being caught in a fierce, months-long standoff with the Phaltan local police and facing alleged pressure from a Member of Parliament (MP). Documents reveal the doctor, who worked at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital, had filed numerous complaints since June 2025, accusing multiple police officers of harassment and pressuring her to falsify medical fitness and post-mortem reports for arrested individuals.

Her death, by hanging in a hotel room, is now an abetment to suicide and rape case, as a note written on her palm accused a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) of rape and another man of harassment. In a written statement to a departmental inquiry in August, she warned that police would be responsible if anything happened to her, claiming she was being targeted due to her “Beed connection.” Police had filed counter-complaints, alleging she deliberately issued “not fit” certificates, disrupting the arrest process. Both the police and hospital administration are now facing intense scrutiny for their alleged inaction on her repeated complaints.
