Supreme Court Junks Another Plea To Sack Arvind Kejriwal As Delhi CM

Arvind Kejriwal’s removal as Chief Minister of Delhi is the subject of yet another petition that the Supreme Court has declined to consider.

The petition’s filer, Kant Bhati, had contested a Delhi High Court ruling last month that overturned his desire to fire Kejriwal after the latter was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering investigation involving the now-repeated contentious liquor policy. A bench made up of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta declined to get involved in the case, stating that Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) V K Saxena should take action if the circumstances called for it. The court determined that the petition lacked legal validity.

“In the end, it comes down to propriety… How do we discuss all of this? Allow the LG to act if he so chooses, the court ruled.

“Let democracy take its own course,” a bench led by acting Chief Justice Manmohan had said.

“He (LG Saxena) doesn’t need our guidance. We are nobody to advise him. He will do whatever he has to, in accordance with the law,” a bench led by acting Chief Justice Manmohan said.
