Tata Power which is India’s largest integrated power utility announced it has obtained Letter of Intent (LoI) from Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) for the distribution and retail supply of electricity in five circles of North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Limited (NESCO) — Balasore, Bhadrak, Baripada, Jajpur and Keonjhar — in north-eastern Odisha.
As per the reports, the tender documentation Tata Power will operate around 51 per cent equity with management control and the State-owned GRIDCO will have the residual 49 per cent equity stake in the company. With the addition of further distribution utility of Odisha, Tata Power will now serve the whole population of the state of Odisha with nearly 9 million consumers across Mumbai, New Delhi, Ajmer, Central, Southern and Western parts of Odisha.
The report further stated that the development will cover a geographical range of more than 27,500 sq km and will serve 1.9 million consumers in the region with annual input energy of 5450 MUs.

With this takeover, the company’s distribution circles will expand to the North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha Limited (NESCO) with a geographical spread of more than 27,500 sq. km and shall serve over 1.9 million consumers with annual input energy of 5450 MUs. Along with this, it will also manage a network of more than 90,000 ckt. km. for a license period of 25 years.
