Subroto Bagchi, the chairman of the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), urged businesses and project partners on Thursday to promote entrepreneurship skills by working with the World Skill Centre and bringing out the human component of the state’s skilling eco-system.Bagchi was addressing during a CxO meeting held by ORMAS to facilitate communication between employers, sector skill councils, and placement implementation agencies (PIAs) as part of the Deen Dayal Upadhaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojaja (DDU-GKY).
Sushil Lohani, the department’s principal secretary for panchayati raj and drinking water, emphasised the importance of having a properly run training programme at the PIA level. He added asked the employers to view this project as a social duty that will enhance the value and reputation of their brands.Since its launch in 2014, 2,17,183 students have received training through DDU-GKY in Odisha, and 1,50,705 of them—including 250 candidates from abroad—have been employed in various states and businesses. Around 15,000 individuals have received training and about 10,000 have been placed in 2022–2023 alone.The meeting, which was opened by Minister for Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Pradip Amat, attracted about 50 employers, 60 PIAs, and 30 SSCs. Usha Padhee, the SD&TE department’s principal secretary, and Guha Poonam T, the CEO of ORMAS, were among those who spoke.
