In the evolving landscape of modern surgery, where precision meets compassion, Dr. Sakti Prasad Sahoo stands as one of Odisha’s most respected laparoscopic surgeons. With over three decades of clinical experience, a formidable research portfolio, and a career that spans some of India’s most esteemed medical institutions, he has carved a niche as a clinician who blends skill with an unyielding commitment to patient care.
Born on 30 October 1967 in Cuttack, Dr. Sahoo’s academic foundation was built steadily—first at the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, then Utkal University, followed by an MBBS from Berhampur University in 1991. His pursuit of surgical excellence led him to Banaras Hindu University, where he completed his MS (Surgery), marking the beginning of a career rooted in discipline, rigorous training, and a passion for complex medical challenges.

His early years as a Senior Resident at the Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU, and later at the Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences, Dehradun, shaped his clinical acumen. Here, he embraced the demanding world of gastrointestinal and pediatric surgery, working in environments where every decision carried consequences and every intervention held the potential to change a life. By the time he transitioned to the role of Assistant Professor at HIMS Dehradun, he was already known for his clarity of judgment, meticulous technique, and ability to guide young doctors with a calm yet firm presence.
In 2011, he began a significant chapter as Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon at Shakti Hospital in Cuttack—an institution that would evolve under his leadership into a center known for advanced gastrointestinal, colorectal, and hepatobiliary procedures. His expertise in minimally invasive surgery has helped countless patients access safer, faster-recovery alternatives, especially in regions where advanced laparoscopic care was once limited. He is in service since 2002 and also a visiting Professor (Surgery) at KIMS, Bhubaneswar.
Dr. Sahoo’s contributions to medical literature span national and international journals, covering rare pediatric conditions, challenging surgical variants, and unique clinical experiences encountered in Indian settings. From neonatal orbital teratoma and splenic tuberculosis to esophageal atresia, hydatid disease, and colorectal anomalies, his work has provided surgeons worldwide with deeper insight into rare presentations and innovative management strategies.
His research collaborations have appeared in reputed journals including Journal of Pediatric Surgery International, Scand J Urol Nephrol, and Indian Journal of Medical Microbiology. Many of his studies, ranging from abdominal cocoon in children to complex variants of rectal atresia, remain widely referenced in pediatric and gastrointestinal surgery.
Dr. Sahoo has also contributed as co-author to academic books, including chapters in Textbook of Tuberculosis published by Jaypee Brothers, reinforcing his role as a clinician-educator shaping the next generation of surgeons.
His active engagement with the surgical community extends far beyond the operating theatre. Whether organizing the CME on Laparoscopic GI Surgery in 2007 or serving as Guest Faculty at OSASICON and workshops across Rourkela, Baragarh, Burla, Kolkata, and Sambalpur, he has consistently shared his knowledge with peers and young surgeons. His invited lectures on colorectal and upper GI malignancies have been appreciated for their clarity, depth, and clinical relevance.
Dr. Sakti Prasad Sahoo continues to balance a demanding clinical practice with an unwavering commitment to surgical excellence. His journey—shaped by science, refined through decades of experience, and anchored in integrity—reflects a career dedicated to improving surgical outcomes and expanding access to quality care. His career stands as a reminder that true mastery is a lifelong pursuit—driven by discipline, purpose, and an enduring desire to serve.
