Toll Plazas in Odisha To Use an Automated System to Enforce Auto Insurance Compliance

In order to detect and punish car owners who do not have valid insurance, the Odisha government plans to install an automated system at toll booths throughout the state. On February 1, this program, which aims to improve road safety and compliance, will go into action. In a post on X on Saturday, the State Transport Authority (STA) announced that the e-detection system will be available at all 22 toll plazas on Odisha’s national highways.

Vehicles without current insurance coverage will be automatically identified by the system, and the owners will get e-challans. Offenders will thereafter face legal action from the Transport Department. All cars must have current insurance in accordance with the Motor cars Act. Infractions may result in a ₹2,000 fine, up to three months in jail, or both. Repeat violators risk further prison time and a ₹4,000 fine.

Automated methods have previously been used by the Transport Department to identify infractions including speeding, lapsed fitness certifications, and unpaid taxes. In the case of an accident involving an uninsured car, this new law aims to provide recompense for families.
