The northern area of Vietnam has had 59 deaths and missing persons as a result of Typhoon Yagi-related landslides and floods, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. According to the ministry, the natural disasters also killed 190,000 birds, uprooted or damaged nearly 121,700 trees, damaged over 113,000 hectares of rice and other crops, sank 25 unmanned vessels, mostly fishing boats, and injured 247 people. Of these, 157 were in Quang Ninh province and 40 were in Hai Phong City.
Thirteen persons are reported missing when a steel bridge collapsed in the northern Phu Tho region of Vietnam, sending ten cars and two motorcycles plummeting into the Red River, according to Xinhua news agency, citing VNA. Additionally, it stated that landslides claimed the lives of 21 people in the province of Cao Bang and 15 more in the province of Lao Cai. According to the ministry, Typhoon Yagi was the most powerful typhoon to strike Vietnam’s northern area in the previous 30 years.
