Veteran Cine Actor Sadhu Meher Passes Away

Sadhu Meher, a veteran actor in movies, went suddenly at home in Mumbai. He was eighty-four. Meher, who was born in the Subarnapur district’s Manamunda, has acted in Hindi and Odia movies. Bhuvan Shome, Ankur, Manthan, Mrigaya, Bhukha, Seeta Raati, Debshishu, Safed Haathi, Nishant, and Desire are just a few of the Hindi and Odia movies in which he has appeared.

Meher’s portrayal of Kistaya in the Hindi film “Ankur” won him the 1974 National Film Award for Best Actor. He was the inaugural Odia celebrity to secure a National Award. 2017 saw him get a Padma Shri for his services to Indian cinema. In 1977, Meher wrote and directed his debut film, Abhimaan, which went on to become one of the most significant in Odia cinema history.

He directed the first children’s sci-fi Odia movie Babula (1985). He was an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the demise. In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said, “Padma Shri Sadhu Meher was an admirable personality in Odisha and at the national level for his powerful acting and direction.
