Officials from the Lok Sabha stated that the authenticated copy of the Supreme Court ruling will be studied and the appropriate action will be done in the process to reinstate Rahul Gandhi.Following the Supreme Court’s decision on Friday to postpone Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a criminal defamation case, all eyes will be on the Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday as it starts the process of restoring his membership in Congress.Officials from the Lok Sabha stated that the Supreme Court order’s authenticated copy will be evaluated and appropriate action would be taken. “Once the order has been evaluated, it generally just takes a few minutes. The secretariat has the proforma for such notifications readily available, an official told HT.
According to Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a copy of the Supreme Court ruling that stayed Gandhi’s conviction by a Surat court has been formally sent to the Lok Sabha secretariat. On an appeal from the Congress leader disputing the Gujarat high court judgement, the top court issued notifications to the Gujarat government and the complainant in July.However, if the secretariat decides to consult the law ministry, as it did in the case of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Md Faizal earlier this year, the reinstatement may take a while to complete.
