16 people have died as a result of the Raigad landslip; search and rescue operations resume today

In anticipation of additional landslides over the night and heavy rain, NDRF suspended the rescue effort. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reports that a total of 16 bodies have been found and 21 people have been saved at the landslide-affected Irshalwadi village in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. After working all day to save the people, the authorities called off the rescue mission out of concern for a nighttime landslip under heavy rain.

In a community on a hillside in a coastal district about 80 km from Mumbai, a landslip happened on Wednesday night, destroying 17 out of 50 homes. The search and rescue crews encountered difficulties using heavy machinery to carry out the mission because of the fragile terrain in the village. The bulk of the muck had to be manually removed.Heavy equipment like excavators and earth movers could not be transported to the hilltop due to the difficult topography.

As JCB machines or any other vehicle cannot access the accident location, disaster management activities and a base camp have been established up at the foothills. Only physically fit men and hikers can reach the village from the foothills because they are currently engaged in manual rescue operations, according to deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who made this statement earlier in the legislative assembly. It takes an hour and a half to get there.
