During today’s Union cabinet meeting, the Centre reduced the cost of cooking gas by 200 rupees per cylinder for all home consumers. The Ujjwala system will now be able to offer a 200 additional subsidy thanks to approval from the cabinet. As a result, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) recipients will receive a total subsidy of 400 rupees per cylinder.The price reduction of $200 for home LPG cylinders announced by PM Modi is a particular favour for all users. Anurag Thakur, a union minister, stated that this is a present from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the women of the country, timed to coincide with the festivals of Raksha Bandhan and Onam.
Only 14.5 crore residents had household LPG connections in 2014, the year we first came to power, according to Thakur. “Today that number has increased to 33 crore, of which 9.6 crore have been distributed under the Ujjwala scheme,” the speaker continued.The government made another big announcement on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Onam: as part of the Ujjwala scheme, it will provide free gas connections to 75 lakh women.
According to Thakur, as part of this initiative, these ladies would be given a free gas hob, their first cooking gas cylinder and the appropriate piping. The overall number of Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries would rise to a noteworthy 10.35 crore once these 75 lakh ladies obtain their gas connections.
