Following the two-day G20 Summit in Delhi, the national capital, there have been recorded cases of theft and damage involving artefacts placed throughout the city for aesthetic purposes. Numerous reports of missing flower pots, rubber nozzles, wiring, and broken lights have been confirmed by police, with a noticeable concentration of occurrences taking place in the New Delhi district.The Public Works Department (PWD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) placed statues, fountains, lighting, and other important equipment as part of the beautifying efforts covering Bharat Mandapam and Lutyens’ Delhi.
In a report by Indian Express, sources claimed that after the G20 Summit, decorative pots that had been placed at ITO and Rajghat had either been taken or damaged. As they stated, “While a few pots were stolen, others were damaged or found lying flat with flowers and mud on the road.”
The officer stated that they had learned that several of the lights close to Sarai Kale Khan flyover and Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg have been broken. “Whether this was purposeful or unintentional is unknown. The Sarai Kale Khan-Noida route and the New Delhi-South Delhi stretch both had a number of pots removed by PWD officials, the officer reported.
Near Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, and Ring Road, a few street lights and decorative lights have been broken or stolen, according to the police. According to sources, nozzles have also vanished from Pragati Maidan.Officers reported that encroachments and street vendors in North Delhi that had been cleared away before the G20 conference were returned. Near Rajghat, India Gate, Turkman Gate, Kashmere Gate, and the Red Fort, such incidents have been reported. According to a senior police officer, “the stolen items are of relatively low value,” hence despite these reports, no FIRs were filed.
