15% Candidates from Bihar constitute of the General Category

The results of a recent caste survey conducted by the Bihar government have been made public, and they show that more than 63% of the state’s population belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs). According to the data, out of the 13.07 crore residents in the state, 36% come from the most disadvantaged social groups, while 27.13% come from other disadvantaged groups.

Data on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were published following every independent India census from 1951 to 2011, but not information on other castes. We now use data from the 1931 census, which was the final one to collect caste-related information.

The Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has now launched an OBC (Other Backward Classes) census. The state government is reportedly considering publishing the study soon, according to the details. On the other hand, a significant argument broke out after former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi praised the caste-based survey conducted in Bihar and advocated for “jitni abadi utna haq.”Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a powerful response to the Congress and INDIA bloc’s drive for the OBC by posing the question, “Does the Opposition want the numerically significant majority to pocket all benefits and rights at the expense of minorities, particularly the Muslims?”
