A video conference between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is jailed, and a Senior Specialist from AIIMS has been arranged by the Tihar jail administration. According to sources on Sunday, neither Kejriwal nor the medical community advocated insulin as a solution. The 40-minute consultation was held on Saturday at Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of the chief minister of Delhi.
“Yesterday, Arvind Kejriwal had video conference (VC) consultation from prominent specialists at AIIMS who were appropriately assigned to his cell. After a long forty-minute meeting, Kejriwal was told there were no major issues. He was told to keep taking the recommended drugs, which will be monitored and assessed on a regular basis, according to the sources. Kejriwal’s diet and medication details, along with the full record of his Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) sensor readings, were sought and obtained by the Senior Specialist from AIIMS.
The sources went on, “Kejriwal neither brought up the topic of insulin nor did the doctors recommend it.” In a report earlier this year, the Tihal jail administration informed Delhi L-G V. K. Saxena that Kejriwal had been taking insulin for the previous few years, but he had stopped a few months ago after seeing a doctor in Telangana. At the time of his arrest, all he was taking was the oral medication Metformin, which is a basic diabetic treatment.
The report stated that Kejriwal has not been prescribed insulin or had any indication that it is necessary in his instance, citing medical documents from the RML Hospital in the nation’s capital. It further stated that the Chief Minister is taking oral anti-diabetes medication. Jail No. 2 is home to Kejriwal, who was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the purported excise policy scam. He will remain in court detention until April 23.
