The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) regional center in Bhubaneswar predicted rain, lightning, and strong surface winds for the state during the next few days following many days of extreme heat. The meteorological office reports that while some areas of the state are expected to see gusty surface wind over the next several days with speeds of up to 30 to 40 kmph, rainfall activities should provide much-needed relief from the warmth.
The IMD stated that a nor’wester might cause the mercury to drop by 4°C to 6°C during the following three to four days, even if any significant change in the maximum (day) temperature has been ruled out for the next twenty-four hours.
For the next 24 hours, the IMD forecasted light rain and/or thundershowers in a few locations in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, and Rayagada. Simultaneously, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Angul, Nayagarh, Nuapada, and Balangir will experience heatwave conditions. In the meantime, fishermen are advised by the meteorological service not to go into the choppy waters near and off the coast of north Odisha between May 6 and May 8.
