Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment KV Singh Deo told the Odisha Assembly that 31,51,700 farmers in the state have benefitted from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) as of October 2024. A written response to a question from Pabitra Saunta, a Congress MLA from Lakshmipur, included the facts.

Singh Deo said that the CM KISAN program has provided assistance to 39,303 landless farming households and 45,57,733 small and marginal farmers. Furthermore, 1.83 lakh farmers have enrolled for the Rabi season and 15,17,000 farmers have registered for the Kharif season under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). In addition, the Minister provided comprehensive data on the state’s farming population, stating that there are 48,65,850 farmers, 9,05,184 sharecroppers, 8,87,272 small farmers, and 36,37,658 marginal farmers in Odisha.

Singh Deo explained in his response that the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment is not responsible for amending the Odisha Relief Code to address agricultural loss brought on by natural disasters. He stated that the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office is in charge of determining the amount of aid that farmers impacted by hurricanes like Dana and unseasonable rainfall are eligible to receive.
