CM Majhi Reviews Expenditure, Urges Depts To Utilize 85% Of Budget By 2024-25

During his evaluation of the spending of several ministries at Lok Seva Bhavan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the need of using at least 85% of the budget before the conclusion of the current fiscal year (2024–25). This target exceeds the 81% spending that was attained in the 2023–2024 fiscal year. Majhi admitted that the September budget presentation, government change, and elections were impeding expenditure. In spite of this, he thought that many departments’ spending was enough. He counseled ministers to approve spending plans and settle outstanding social system payments in order to reach the goal.

Citing their role in job creation and growth, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of capital and program expenditures. The greatest percentage of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GSDP) devoted to capital expenditures is 6.1% in Odisha. Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resources, Health, Water Resources, Works, Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Supplies, and Cooperatives are among the departments that spend quite well.

In order to ensure efficient use of the public money for the benefit of the populace, Majhi urged other departments to raise their spending. Rabi Narayan Naik, the Minister of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Rural Development; Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development; Nityanand Gond, the Minister of Schools and Mass Education; Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, the Minister of Transportation; and Shri Gokulanand Mallick, the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock, were among those present at the meeting.

In attendance were Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal’s additional chief secretary, as well as additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, and secretaries from other departments. Shashwat Mishra, the principal secretary of finance, gave a presentation about the expenses of several departments.
