The proposal to undertake the following three projects, which are estimated to cost Rs 1,066.38 crore and span six years, from FY 2025–2026 to 2030–31, under the Dam Rehabilitation & Improvement Project-III with support from the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) funded under the Externally Aided Project, was approved by the Odisha Cabinet on Friday.
Building a second spillway for the Hirakud dam on the left dike after conducting an underwater, ground, and aerial assessment of the dam’s damaged state and repair efforts. Using a SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, the Hirakud Dam’s current gates and the suggested extra spillway gates will be automated.
More floods will be able to pass safely thanks to the Hirakud Dam’s extra spillway. The lifespan of the dam will also be increased by the underwater, ground, and aerial assessment of distressed situations, analysis, and selection of cutting-edge current materials for rehabilitation methods employing contemporary machinery and equipment, as well as its videography. Better control and monitoring will result from replacing manual gate operation with a remote operation system that uses SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) through DRIP-III under the guidance of national and international specialists.
