Bhubaneswar: To commemorate World Liver Day 2025, Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar organized a large-scale Mega Liver Health Screening Camp and Health Talk Session at the Maha Budha Society of India, located on Madhusudan Marg, UNIT-9, Bhubaneswar. The initiative saw an overwhelming response, with over 250 participants attending the event, which was aimed at promoting liver health awareness and early detection of liver-related ailments.
The event was graced by Dr. Rajaram Satapathy, Senior Journalist and Former Orissa Bureau Chief of The Times of India, Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Director of Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar. Also present were prominent members of the hospital’s gastroenterology team, including Dr. Pratap Behera, Senior Consultant, Medical Gastroenterology; Dr. Gyana Ranjan Rout, Consultant, Medical Gastroenterology; and Dr. Jyotirmay Jena, Consultant – GI & HPB Surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Satapathy highlighted the pressing need for public engagement and awareness around lifestyle diseases.
“In an age where lifestyle-related ailments are on the rise, awareness is the first step toward prevention. Manipal Hospitals has taken a commendable step in bringing expert care and vital information directly to the community. Public participation in such health camps is crucial for building a healthier Odisha,” he said.
The camp ran from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, offering free liver function tests and featuring three focused awareness sessions conducted by Dr. Behera, Dr. Rout, and Dr. Jena. These sessions emphasized the importance of early screening, particularly for individuals at higher risk due to factors such as alcohol consumption, obesity, diabetes, and family history of liver diseases. The doctors underlined that many liver conditions remain asymptomatic until they reach advanced stages, making regular check-ups essential.
Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra reiterated the hospital’s commitment to community well-being:
“This initiative reflects our commitment to not just treating but also educating and empowering our community. Liver diseases are often silent killers, and through this camp, we aimed to bring timely awareness and free access to expert care. We are proud to see such strong participation, which reinforces our role not just as a healthcare provider, but as a health partner to the people of Odisha.”
Adding to this, Dr. Pratap Behera stated:
“Our goal with this camp is to encourage people to take charge of their liver health before it’s too late. Regular screening can make a significant difference in early diagnosis and treatment.”
This year’s World Liver Day was celebrated under the theme “Food is Medicine,” emphasizing the role of nutrition in maintaining liver health. Manipal Hospital’s initiative perfectly aligned with this message, aiming to not only provide care but also inspire lifestyle changes that support long-term liver wellness.
The event stands as a testament to Manipal Hospital Bhubaneswar’s ongoing dedication to preventive healthcare, combining expert medical services with proactive community outreach to raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and improve public health outcomes across Odisha.
