- You have represented Hindi on international platforms. How do you see the global relevance of Hindi literature growing in today’s world?
Answer:
Hindi is a language spoken by many in and around India. Hindi is a language which is very rich and beautiful. India being the most populous country in the world and almost everyone understands Hindi and can speak if not write or read. It itself mean that Hindi is the world’s leading language. Indians living abroad are in many millions which means that the segment of Hindi speaking is even more. Hindi is the third most spoken language in the world. Taking Hindi language to the global heights is my dream and I presume in near future it is possible.
- What inspired you to choose Hindi as your medium of expression, especially when many are moving toward English?
Answer:
Hindi is my first language since my birth. Although my mother toungue is Manipuri/ Meiteilon, I was never raised in Manipur. Being a product of a defence school and taking intense interest in Hindi since my very young age, Hindi became natural to me. Thus I can express my heart’s depth especially in Hindi. I love literature, so I respect every language, although I chose Hindi as my medium of expression.
- As someone who has been part of several national and global literary conclaves, what has been your most inspiring moment so far?
Answer:
The most inspiring moment for me is that international conclaves consider Hindi as one of the major representations and that elates me. I am humbled to be a part of several international conclaves and being chosen to be exhibiting my literary works are immensely satisfying.
- What would you say are the key responsibilities of an author representing their language and culture internationally?
Answer:
As an author it is necessary to represent the beauty of literature in one’s language and follow the heart. Follow the international standards and pre-requisites. Write such that the readers comprehend it’s true meaning and are keen to know more from you as an author or poet.
- What challenges have you faced as a Hindi author in getting recognition beyond regional and national borders? How did you overcome them?
Answer:
When my book went to NFDC «National Film Development Corporation», it was the only Hindi Book from my publisher, there were «n» number of books represented there and all were English. Does that mean that whatever language one chooses, if there is the matter, the instinct, the passion, it will stand out. Even, to the London book fest my book «Ayushya» was chosen. I presume I had challenges, but I always believe to make path for myself. So came Hindi to me and I followed my heart.
- What advice would you give to aspiring authors who wish to stay true to their native language while reaching a wider audience?
Answer: In this world of digital travesty, language is not at all a barrier. Languages in fact is so beautiful. Translations are very much a reality. The Japanese and Korean dramas are very much liked by the world by translations. So is Hindi. If the theme and literature is beautiful language is just an add-on.
