A police officer in Prayagraj has gone viral for performing a unique act of devotion by offering prayers to floodwater that had entered his home, referring to it as a sacred blessing from the Ganga. Officer Chandradeep Nishad shared videos on Instagram where he is seen pouring milk and sprinkling rose petals into the waterlogged areas outside and inside his house, while chanting “Jai Ganga Maiya ki” (Hail Mother Ganga).
Dressed in uniform, Nishad described the incident as a divine experience, writing in the caption: “Mother Ganga arrived at our house while leaving for duty this morning. Got blessings by worshiping Maa Ganga at my doorstep. Hail Mother Ganga.”
The videos have drawn widespread attention and divided social media. While some viewers admired his spiritual outlook and sense of humor amid difficult circumstances, others expressed frustration over the worsening flood situation in Uttar Pradesh and alleged government negligence.
Critics pointed to the lack of proper drainage systems, with one user commenting, “Failure of UP government… no proper drainage system.” Another offered a sarcastic remark: “If your devotion has power, may Ganga always stay in your house and bless you.”
Supporters, however, praised Nishad’s attitude, with comments like, “If the heart is pure, everything is fine,” and “Man changa toh kathuti mein Ganga”—a Hindi saying meaning even a small space can hold divinity if the mind is pure.
The officer’s actions have added a spiritual twist to an otherwise grim situation, reflecting both resilience and rising public frustration over flood management in the state.
