In a landmark Independence Day announcement from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra, an ambitious state-of-the-art defence programme aimed at fortifying India’s security against enemy threats.
Inspired by Lord Shri Krishna’s legendary weapon, the multi-layered shield will safeguard strategic, civilian, and religious sites from aerial, land, and sea-based attacks. PM Modi said the system will integrate cutting-edge surveillance, interception, and counter-attack technologies, all researched, developed, and manufactured within India.
“This powerful system will not only repel terrorist strikes but also hit back decisively. By 2035, we aim to expand, strengthen, and modernise this shield,” the Prime Minister said, adding that the mission will harness the talent of India’s youth.
Mission Sudarshan Chakra is set to rival Israel’s famed Iron Dome, which has intercepted thousands of rockets with a success rate of over 90 per cent. The Indian system will feature advanced tools to swiftly neutralise threats across multiple domains, marking a major leap in the nation’s defence capabilities.
