New Delhi, August 13, 2026: The Monsoon Session of Parliament concluded on Thursday with both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die, bringing an end to a session marked by repeated disruptions, protests and political confrontation.

The session, which began on July 20 and was scheduled for 19 sittings, saw considerable legislative activity despite frequent interruptions. According to reports, 12 Bills were introduced and 11 were passed by both Houses, although the government and Opposition remained sharply divided over several issues.

Opposition protests over issues including the NEET controversy, student protests and police action repeatedly disrupted proceedings. The Lok Sabha was adjourned amid heavy sloganeering on the final day, while the Rajya Sabha also witnessed political clashes.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised the disruptions and argued that repeated interruptions reduced the amount of meaningful parliamentary debate. Other Opposition leaders, meanwhile, continued to demand discussions on issues they considered important for public accountability.

The final day also featured a symbolic singing of all six stanzas of Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha before the House was adjourned. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were present during the closing proceedings.

The session’s conclusion has once again brought attention to the wider question of parliamentary productivity versus political protest, with both sides blaming the other for the limited time available for detailed debate.

The photographs available from today’s coverage are limited, so I would not describe either as a photograph taken specifically during the final minutes of today’s session.
