India’s equity markets delivered another volatile week, with seven of the country’s 10 most-valued companies collectively losing ₹1.13 lakh crore in market capitalisation.

The biggest blow was suffered by Bharti Airtel, whose market valuation dropped by over ₹40,500 crore, followed closely by Reliance Industries, which lost more than ₹40,000 crore in market value.

Other major companies that witnessed a decline in their valuations included HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), and Hindustan Unilever (HUL).

The sharp erosion reflects the broader weakness and cautious sentiment in Indian equities during the week. Benchmark indices remained under pressure, while investors navigated a mix of domestic concerns and global market uncertainty.

Despite the losses, Reliance Industries retained its position as India’s most-valued company, followed by Bharti Airtel and major financial giants including HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank.

Interestingly, the decline was not uniform across all corporate heavyweights. TCS, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India were among the companies that saw gains in market valuation, highlighting the selective nature of investor sentiment.

The latest market-cap erosion underlines how quickly investor wealth can fluctuate, even among India’s largest and most established companies. With global cues, crude oil movements, institutional flows and domestic economic data likely to influence trading in the coming days, market participants will be watching closely to see whether the correction deepens or buying interest returns.
