A portion of the headgear (Kirita) of Lord Jagannath was found missing during the golden attire (Suna Besha) rituals of the ‘Holy Trinity’ in Puri.
According to reports, the Kirita of Lord Jaganath had only 20 ‘Kias’ (top portion of the headgear) instead of the usual 21 ‘Kias’. The third ‘Kia’ from the left side of the headgear was missing during the Suna Besha atop Nandighosha chariot.
The missing portion of the headgear was covered with flowers which later created a lot of questions during the live telecast.
However, the servitors of Lord Jagannath temple assured that the broken portion of the headgear has been safely preserved and the ornament will be repaired soon.
Bhandara Mekapa Lakshmi Narayan Mekapa said “The Kirita was in perfect condition while it was brought out from the store. However, during the golden attire of Lord Jagannath atop Nandighosha Rath, it was broken as the portion was a bit weaker. We have safely preserved the portion. It will be repaired soon. Many ornaments of the Holy Trinity have become very old. Different sets of the ornaments with the same design for the deities should be kept ready for big occasions like Ratha Jatra.”
