Former BJP MLA from Bhanjanagar constituency and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha has been elected as the Speaker of Odisha Assembly on Monday. Arukha was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Odisha Assembly as no other members had filed their nominations. It is pertinent to mention that the post had fallen vacant after the resignation of Surya Narayan Patro on June 4 due to health issues.
The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs had also supported the proposal. After the verbal vote, Arukha was announced as the Speaker by Deputy Speaker Rajani Kant Singh. Notably, he had been elected as the MLA from Bhanjanagar six times.
