The BJP drew attention to Rana Kapoor’s statement to the ED, in which he stated that Priyanka Gandhi pressured him into paying 2 crore for a picture by MF Husain. In the second installment of the “Congress Papers,” the Bharatiya Janata Party accuses the venerable party of corruption and extortion. The alleged extortion in the guise of a painting and the promise of a Padma Bhushan are both depicted in the second episode of the Congress Files, which was released on Monday.The BJP referred to a FATF report when highlighting former Yes Bank CEO Rana Kapoor’s statement to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which he claimed that he was pressured into paying Priyanka Gandhi Vadra $2 crore for an MF Husain painting and that he had been promised the Padma Bhushan, one of the nation’s highest civilian honours, in exchange.
The deal was arranged by senior Congress leader Murli Deora, according to Rana Kapoor’s statement, which was recorded by the ED on March 9 and 10, 2020. This information has already been disclosed. It continued that a prominent Congress leader, the late Ahmed Patel, had praised Kapoor for his “good deed” a few weeks after the purchase and told him that he would be “duly considered” for a significant civilian honour as well as “perhaps some non-political banking and finance jobs.” This assertion was contained in a supplemental charge sheet that the Enforcement Department (ED) submitted to the Mumbai PMLA court in April 2022.
