According to Interfax, a court in this city fined Wikimedia Foundation 2 million roubles ($24,525) on Thursday for failing to delete what the court described as “fake information” concerning Russia’s military assault in Ukraine. The proprietor of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia has already received fines. The Russian government has fined Wikimedia Foundation a number of times as part of its stated strategy of repressing unreliable information sources.
Wikimedia has consistently insisted that the content about which the Russian government has expressed concern was properly sourced and compliant with Wikipedia standards.
