In the aftermath of the brutal Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their crackdown on terrorism. On Saturday, the police released a list of 14 active local terrorists operating across the Kashmir Valley, with nine of them concentrated in South Kashmir.
As part of the counter-terror operations, security forces demolished the two-storied residence of Adnan Shafi Dar, a terrorist linked to The Resistance Front (TRF) — a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba — in Melhura, Zainapora area of Shopian district. Additionally, the house of Jameel Ahmed’s father was razed; Ahmed has been based in Pakistan since 2017.
So far, the homes of nine terrorists have been demolished across the Valley in a determined effort to cripple terror networks.
Meanwhile, border tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated. Fresh ceasefire violations were reported overnight in the Nowgam and Uri sectors. The Indian Army retaliated strongly to Pakistani firing in Rampur Uri and Tutmari Gali in Nowgam, Kupwara sectors.
“On the night of April 26-27, 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur Sectors. Our troops responded effectively with appropriate small arms fire,” the Indian Army said in a statement.
In a significant diplomatic move, India has also suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack.
In a separate tragic development, a 45-year-old social activist, Ghulam Rasool Magray, who was shot by unidentified terrorists inside his residence at Kandi Khas on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Security forces remain on high alert across the region as operations against terrorists and their supporters continue.
