Cabinet Okays Rs 9,152.56 Cr For 200 Midi Electric Buses

A significant initiative to buy, run, and repair 200 midi electric buses under a gross cost contract has been approved by the Odisha Cabinet. Over the following ten years, the project, which is valued at Rs 9,152.56 crore, would be carried out. Six of the state’s largest cities—Keonjhar, Baripada, Berhampur, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur—will receive the electric buses. In addition to lowering carbon emissions and urban pollution, the initiative seeks to enhance city transportation and urban growth.

The project supports the objectives of “Vikshit Odisha,” “Vikshit Bharat,” and “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” and is a component of the state’s strategy to become a fully developed state by 2047. Thousands of commuters will benefit from the project’s safe, effective, and environmentally friendly bus transportation, which will improve urban transportation options and encourage sustainable growth. Currently, the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) runs 670 buses on many routes, serving approximately three lakh people per day. It is anticipated that this new initiative would improve the state’s urban transportation system even more and help create a cleaner environment.
