Communal Tension results in curfew in Madhya Pradesh

According to the police, the unrest started on Sunday afternoon when four Muslim adolescents beat up a Muslim female, a school lab teacher, and a Hindu male student for celebrating his birthday in a restaurant.After racial animosity flared out in the city late Sunday, police in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, enforced a curfew under Section 144 and detained five persons, among them an independent corporator.According to Satendra Shukla, superintendent of police (SP), Khandwa, the unrest started on Sunday after four Muslim youngsters beat up a Muslim female, a school lab teacher and a Hindu male student for celebrating his birthday in a restaurant. Along with them were the teacher and a student who identified as Hindu.

Police filed a case against the four Muslim youngsters for kidnapping and maliciously inflicting harm based on the girl’s accusation. While the other two suspects are still at large, police have apprehended two of them.In the afternoon, Hindu organisations organised a protest.A large group of Muslims arrived to Lal Chowk and Moghat police station later, at 11 p.m., led by corporator Ashfaq Sigad. They threw rocks at the police station and yelled anti-police chants, alleging unfair treatment from the force. The stone-pelting caused three people to sustain injuries.
