Covid-19 Surge Intensify; Ganjam Shuts Down Religious Institutions, Public Places For 7 Days

In comparison with other states, Odisha is termed as to be still in a safer position in terms of the resurgence in cases of Covid-19 but with the daily rising cases, the situation can go out of control.

Dr. Ashok Mohapatra, Former Director of Bhubaneswar AIIMS talked about the current situation of Coronavirus in the state and stated that if appropriate protocols are not followed properly then the daily cases of virus infection in Odisha may jump beyond 10000 in the coming months.

He further informed that the fatality rate in the second wave of the virus pandemic is comparatively lower from the first phase but the rate of positivity is certainly higher. Mohapatra added that they are not sure about how many cases the pandemic hit will during the peak but there is a certainty that it will be much more than the present trend of 1.6 Lakh in India. The reason behind this is the maximum cases are limited to only a few states and once the outbreak spreads to other states and the spike will be monumental.

He further added that people are also exhibiting some new symptoms during this time around especially redness in the eyes, digestive troubles, vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite apart from cold, cough, fever, and pneumonia. He even clears the air regarding the cautioned against false assurance that low mortality should be taken for granted and as an excuse to violate mask guidelines.

According to the official reports, most people even in Odisha are not wearing the mask because of carelessness and thought processes like diseases for example cholera or even accidents are claiming more lives than Covid.

Meanwhile, the Ganjam district administration has made more strict restrictions to contain the spread of the Covid-19. As per the official report, all religious institutions in the district will remain closed for the next seven days from April 14 to April 21, 2021.

Senior district officials stated that all religious places will be sanitized during this period. But, the priests and sevayats will secure only daily rituals in the temples and other religious places.

Apart from religious institutions, all public places like parks, playgrounds, sea beaches, and lakes shall also be closed for seven days till April 21 for maintenance and sanitation purposes. Similarly, the celebration of Meru Jatra and Pana Sankranti shall not be celebrated publicly in the district.

The official report further added that the BeMC in Berhampur Municipal Area & Sub-Divisional Magistrate in their respective jurisdiction through concerned Tahasildars, Block Development Officer, and Executive Officer, NAC. Any person violating these measures will be liable to be proceeded against following the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, and Regulations issued thereunder besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC and other legal provisions.
