The Delhi government has revealed plans to rehabilitate non-conforming industrial sites, which it says would result in the creation of 600,000 employment opportunities. Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, declared his intention to use a thorough redevelopment strategy to convert all 26 non-conforming industrial zones into officially recognized conforming industrial regions. Kejriwal said that the development of these non-conforming industrial regions was essential for the expansion and development of Delhi’s industrial sector during a high-level meeting on Wednesday.
“Once the redevelopment is complete, these areas will be accorded the coveted Conforming Area status, providing a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. Recognizing the financial burden associated with formulating the layout for these areas, the Delhi Government has taken a proactive step by shouldering 90 per cent of the costs, with only 10 per cent of the expenses being borne by the industries,” Kejriwal said.
According to the Delhi Government, it is steadfastly devoted to reviving Delhi’s industrial environment, promoting economic growth, and creating job opportunities. Officials from the Department of Industries said during the review meeting that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is in charge of demarcating land for residential, commercial, and industrial use in accordance with the Delhi Master Plan. However, the DDA was unable to keep up with the rate of growth when residential, commercial, and industrial activity grew in Delhi.
As a result of Delhi’s lack of residential colonies, unlawful colonies started to appear. For other reasons, Delhi’s land usage began to diverge from the Master Plan. The DDA failed to develop industrial clusters in a timely way, which allowed for the formation of unlicensed or non-compliant industrial districts. Currently, non-conforming industrial zones, or industrial operations, occupy more than 70% of the land.
